Western Butler County Authority was created in May 1972 and is comprised of Zelienople Borough, Harmony Borough, Jackson Township and Lancaster Township in Butler County. The Authority’s sewerage system consists of one sewage treatment plant, six sewage-pumping stations, collector sewers, and conveyance sewers. This sewerage system serves the communities of Zelienople Borough and Harmony Borough, as well as portions of Lancaster and Jackson Townships. All communities are located in southwestern Butler County. The Water Pollution Control Plant is a complex tertiary, aerobic biological treatment facility located on Market Street in Zelienople Borough with a permitted hydraulic capacity of 2,200,000 gallons per day. The Authority's conveyance and collection system consists of approximately 50 miles of sanitary sewers, ranging in size from 6 inches in diameter to 24 inches in diameter.
